When a tree needs to come down, it needs to come down without hitting the house, the fence or the neighbor’s car. Baxter’s removes trees for homeowners, farms, property managers and builders across Skagit, Whatcom, Snohomish and Island County. Call (360) 503-0571 for a free estimate.

Trees we remove
- Dead, dying or diseased trees
- Trees leaning toward houses, garages, driveways or roads
- Storm-damaged trees with broken tops or split trunks
- Trees too close to the house, roof or foundation
- Trees in the way of a new build, addition, shop or driveway
- Cottonwoods, alders and poplars dropping heavy limbs
How a removal works
- Estimate. We walk the site with you, look at the tree, what’s around it and how we can get in, and give you a clear price.
- Plan. Open space means the tree may be felled in one piece. Near buildings, it comes down in sections and pieces are lowered with rigging.
- Removal. We protect lawns, gardens and hard surfaces as much as the site allows.
- Cleanup. Limbs and wood are chipped, hauled off or cut to firewood length and left, your choice.
- Stump. Leave it, grind it, or pull it out with an excavator. See stump grinding.
Equipment we run on tree jobs: excavator, skid steer with grapple, forestry mulcher, wood chipper, log loader truck and stump grinder. Not sure what your job needs? We will tell you at the free estimate, and we don’t charge for it.
What affects the price
Tree size and species, what’s under and around it, access for equipment, whether it can be dropped or has to come down in pieces, and what you want done with the stump and wood. We give you the number before any work starts.
Trees near power lines
If a tree is touching or close to a power line, call your electric utility first. Utilities handle lines and, in many cases, the trees around them. We can take care of the rest once the line is safe.
Permits
Most single yard trees don’t need a permit, but trees in critical areas (steep slopes, wetlands, stream buffers) or within shoreline jurisdiction often do. Rules vary by city and county. We’ll point out anything that looks regulated so you can check with your planning office before work starts.
Our crew includes an ISA Certified Arborist.
Frequently asked questions
How much does tree removal cost?
It depends on size, location, access, what’s nearby and stump/wood cleanup. Estimates are free and you get one clear price before work starts.
Do you grind the stump too?
We can. Stumps can be ground down below grade or pulled out entirely with an excavator, which is useful if you’re building or regrading.
Can you remove a tree in a tight backyard?
Usually. Tight-access trees come down in sections and pieces are lowered with rigging, then carried or chipped out.
Do I need a permit?
Often not for a single yard tree, but trees in critical areas, shoreline areas or protected tracts can need approval. Check with your city or county planning office.
We also do excavation. Baxter’s also handles site prep, gravel driveways, grading, drainage and demolition. See baxterexcavation.com for our excavation services.
